Position Summary:
The Truck Driver/Equipment Operator is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all public infrastructure and underground utilities within Wheatland County hamlets.
The Truck Driver/Equipment Operator is also responsible for road maintenance, snow clearing, water and sewer service installation and repair, tree trimming, graveling, alleyway grading, landscaping, and other related duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with other team members, replace or repair underground water, sewer, and storm lines, as required.
- Working with other team members, replace or repair water valves, hydrants, manholes, and catch basins.
- Working with other team members, thaw frozen service lines.
- Assess underground service and utility distribution problems.
- Maintain streets, alleyways, and sidewalks in hamlets including grading and snow clearing.
- Participate in the landscaping and tree trimming operations.
- Properly operate and maintain heavy equipment including back hoe, grader, skid steer, packers, and hydro-vac in accordance with Wheatland County policies; ensure work is performed in a safe and prompt manner.
- Properly operate and maintain tandem gravel truck for hauling operations in accordance with Wheatland County policies; ensure work is performed in a safe and prompt manner.
- Perform minor culvert replacements / regrading projects, as required.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable Wheatland County policies and bylaws.
- Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at safety meetings, being properly trained in OH&S related topics, and ensuring work is completed in a safe manner.
- Appropriately, and in a timely manner complete administrative tasks (e.g., timesheets; daily mileage logs), when required.
- Relate to and communicate with co-workers, management, customers and vendors sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
- Perform tasks, consistent with the position, including special projects / assignments, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.
Qualifications:
- Valid Class 1 Alberta drivers’ licence
- Minimum three (3) years of heavy equipment experience
- Ground Disturbance II certification
- Confined Space Entry certification
- First Aid Certification
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work alone and work cooperatively in a team environment
Working Conditions:
- (Approximately) April – November (Summer Season) – Monday to Friday; 7:00 am-5:00 pm; (Approximately) December – March (Winter Season) – Monday to Friday; 7:00 am-3:30 pm
- Overtime may be required
