We are seeking a detail-oriented Inspector specializing in architectural millwork. The AWMAC Certified GIS Inspector operates independently and interdependently with the AWMAC Chapter as an integral piece of AWMAC’s Guarantee and Inspection Service (GIS) Program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting and assessing information related to millwork projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance with industry standards, and quality control. This role involves fieldwork, shop drawing reviews, mock-up reviews, reports, site inspections, and close collaboration with design and construction teams.
The Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC) is the national voice of the architectural woodwork industry in Canada. GIS is a national program designed to ensure that quality architectural woodwork is delivered on every project, while following and meeting the AWMAC Standards Manual. Job Type: Contract Position, as per project basis with no guarantee on minimum hours. The role is flexible and project-based, making it a great opportunity for someone who enjoys staying connected to industry with only a modest time commitment.
Job Rate: $35 - $45/hour, dependent on experience
Location: Remote and within Northern Alberta Chapter Boundaries
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete the Inspector Certification Exam (ICE) as administered by AWMAC;
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the NAAWS Manual;
- Conduct inspections of architectural millwork and issue written reports based on the AWMAC Standards manual;
- Ensure compliance with industry standards for millwork and construction as set in the AWMAC Standards manual;
- Perform field inspections and collect data on millwork deficiencies;
- Keep track of assigned projects assigned and arrange inspections; and,
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations affecting architectural millwork and GIS applications.
REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledgeable about building construction in general and specifically, architectural woodwork;
- Familiar with building construction, architectural plans, specifications, and shop drawings;
- Able to interpret and understand AWMAC Standards;
- Able to produce a concise, comprehensive and well-organized report;
- Competent in the use of Microsoft programs;
- Able to provide tools required for inspection process;
- Physically able and available to perform job-site inspections when required;
- Strong ethic with impartiality, not in conflict with the work being inspected;
- Good interpersonal written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to work independently while maintaining regular coordination with the AWMAC Chapter;
- Valid Driver’s License with the ability to travel within the AWMAC Northern Alberta Chapter area
SCHEDULE
The GIS Inspector position is a per-project opportunity. Assignments will fluctuate based on GIS projects specified within the Northern Alberta Chapter boundaries. Projects under $100,000 may require up to eight (8) hours, projects over $100,000 may require up to sixteen (16) hours, and larger projects are at the discretion of the Inspector.
