SENIOR UTILITY OPERATOR

Purpose of the position
The position will be responsible for (but not limited to):

Operating and maintaining the water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, wastewater treatment, storm water collection to comply with the provincial standards and guidelines for Municipal Waterworks, Wastewater systems.

Experience in operating and maintaining tools and equipment such as compressors, pneumatic hammers, cut-off saws, grinders, electronic fusion machines, mobile steamers, backhoes, loaders, and hydro-excavators in a safe and efficient manner.

Assisting Supervisor with maintenance procedures and schedules.

Performing routine maintenance inspections on vehicles and equipment.

Responding to emergencies and acting to control sewage leaks or treatment disruptions in a manner that is safe for self and public and to minimize environmental impact.

Providing information to customers related to utility operations in a professional manner.

Supervision of Utility Operators and seasonal staff.

Responsible for safety and staff development of Utility Operators.

Assisting the Manager with preparation for capital planning and projects.

To be the successful candidate in this position, you will come to us with:

A Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
-
Level 3 Wastewater Treatment Certification recognized in Alberta is preferred
-
Minimum 5 years experience working in a municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant

Good interpersonal and communications skills.
-
Ability to read maps, specifications, and construction plans used in utility construction work.

Good record keeping ability.
-
Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.

Basic computer skills with SCADA systems and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Skill in using hand and power tools used in construction, repair, installation and maintenance of the utility's operations system.

Class 5 driver's license.
The successful candidate will require a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Drivers’ Abstract (documents must be dated within a 6-month period).

Salary range up to $106,724.80 per annum ($51.31 hourly)

Full-time permanent position (40hrs/wk) with evening and weekend obligations as required.
