Based at Goldboro Gold Project in Goldboro, NS, we currently have an exciting opportunity for one (1) Geotechnician to join our NexGold team, reporting to the Senior Project Geologist.
The role of the Geotechnician is to provide assistance in all matters related to handling and working with drill core to ensure safe and efficient geoteching of core. The Geotechnician will work closely with the –Senior Project Geologist and Site Supervisors – Project Geologists to execute daily core logging and related tasks required to support the geoteching of core to support drill programs. The Geotechnician will also assist with logistics and other exploration related activities as required.

Key Responsibilities:
Core Sampling
- Manually handle/lift/carry drill core boxes
- Tech core and take measurements of specific physical properties of the core including meter marks, Recovery, RQD, Magnetic Susceptibility and Specific Gravity
- Cutting core using provided saw equipment and sampling of core including labelling samples, marking the core boxes with sample tag locations and ensuring precise labelling of sample bags and associated samples
- Organizing and packing samples for shipping
- Maintain the core shack, core storage areas and exploration sites
Site Maintenance
- Tree cutting as required utilizing a chainsaw
- Operating a skid steer as required to assist with the exploration program as required
- Provide site security and site checks when there are no active exploration programs (regular checks on infrastructure, buildings and storage areas)
- Occasional minor routine maintenance on equipment, i.e., checking tire pressure, replacing wiper blades on vehicles, etc.
Drill Program Support
- Spotting trails and drill pads and associated site inspections forms
- Completing and documenting daily drill site inspections and environmental monitoring during diamond drill programs
- Maintain adherence to the Exploration Safety Plan and the Emergency Response Plan
- Maintain adherence to Standard Operating Procedures for exploration activities
- Maintain adherence to the Spill Response Plan
Other Duties
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental responsibilities
- Assist the environment department with sampling programs, field surveys, boat operations spill response, etc.
- Occasional field support with the exploration geologists including prospecting and mapping, soil/till surveys, trail flagging, etc
- Occasional regional travel (i.e., day trips to communities surrounding the Goldboro Mine)
- Work with the Exploration Team and other staff to maintain goodwill with host communities
- Promote good will, mutual respect, and a positive working environment for all team members and the greater team
- Additional responsibilities or tasks as reasonably assigned
What You Bring:
Must Haves:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license (equivalent to “Class 5” in Nova Scotia)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Sufficient computer skills to perform data entry and update reports and activity logs
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to walk 5km-7km a day
- Ability to stand in a stationary location for up to an hour at a time
- Ability to handle repetitive tasks
- Willingness and ability to performance fieldwork under varying weather and terrain conditions
- Ability to utilize digital maps and GPS equipment
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Geology or related fields of study
- Chainsaw safety certification
- Skid Steer operating certificate
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Wilderness First Aid certification
- Previous experience in a mining or industrial environment considered an asset
- Experience in bush or exploration environments an asset
Role Details:
- Schedule: 4 days per week at 10 hours per day 7AM-5PM, 1 day per week at 8 hours per day 7AM-3PM, a total of 48 hours per week. Scheduled days will be provided in advance as they vary and are not the same days every week.

- Compensation: $69,888 - $74,880 (based on 2496 annual hours) dependent on incumbent’s qualifications and experience. Eligible for discretionary short-term incentive program.
