TAKHINI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (TAK) – Whitehorse
Home to the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, Takhini Elementary school is one of 11 Yukon schools that have joined the newly established First Nation School Board (FNSB) in the Yukon. Southern Tutchone is the traditional language of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council people.
Takhini Elementary school is a K-7 school with approximately 141 students. We are actively seeking a committed and qualified educator who is dedicated to living and being an active member of the community. Our educational professionals value authentic relationships and are committed to working with students, community, administration and the FNSB to make positive, progressive changes to education outcomes for learners of Takhini Elementary.

Qualifications and Experience
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;

Experience working with youth;
-
Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset;

Experience integrating self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in the classroom is an asset;
-
Experience working with Indigenous learners in a culturally diverse community is an asset.
-
Experience with restorative justice in a classroom setting would be an asset.
- Experience working with neuro-diverse students will be an asset.

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

Desire and passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, school staff, First Nation education workers, and the community as a whole.
Conditions of Employment

Security Clearance (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to starting work;

Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months;

Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the 2023/24 school year.
