Field Engineer

JOB SUMMARY
Quattro Constructors is seeking a motivated Field Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of complex civil infrastructure projects. A key member of the Project Management Team, this role provides technical engineering support throughout all phases of construction, including project planning, field engineering, quality control, procurement, scheduling, quantity tracking, and project documentation.
Working collaboratively with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and field crews, the Field Engineer helps ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, engineering standards, and client expectations. This position offers hands-on experience across all aspects of heavy civil construction and provides a strong foundation for career progression into Project Engineering, Project Management, Estimating, or Construction Operations.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
Engineering & Technical Support
- Review project specifications, drawings, shop drawings, as-builts, submittals, and other contract documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with contract requirements;
- Coordinate submittal reviews, acquisitions, and submissions to the Owner;
- Assist with engineering design and drafting for temporary works, including falsework, shoring, formwork, lift plans, critical picks, and other project-specific engineering requirements;
- Perform field layout, survey assistance, staking requests, concrete quantity cut-offs, activity take-offs, and project quantity control to support construction operations; and
- Assist in acquiring project plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs for change order work, and supporting documentation for potential claims.
Planning & Project Coordination
- Assist in developing project schedules, including baseline schedules, updates, weekly schedules, sequencing of work, crew assignments, site logistics, traffic flow, material storage, and construction planning activities;
- Monitor project progress, anticipate project needs, communicate significant schedule changes, and participate in developing alternative recovery plans to minimize impacts to production;
- Assist in developing work plans, pre-plans, post-plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and other project execution documentation; and
- Coordinate subcontractors and support day-to-day project activities as required.
Procurement & Material Management
- Coordinate the procurement, ordering, delivery, and storage of permanent materials required for the project; and
- Verify compliance with contract specifications and coordinate certifications and quality documentation with QC/QA personnel.
Quality Assurance & Project Controls
- Provide quality control support during critical construction activities, including pre-pour inspections, to ensure compliance with project specifications and contract requirements;
- Perform project quantity tracking, weekly quantity reporting in HeavyJob and Acumatica, review timecards, record new cost codes, and maintain accurate quantity and cost tracking systems; and
- Assist Construction Management in monitoring project production, costs, budgets, and schedules.
Documentation & Project Closeout
- Maintain daily project diaries, weekly project photographs, and other project records;
- Acquire and maintain documentation supporting change management and potential claims; and
- Support project closeout activities, including completion of documentation, equipment manuals, warranties, retainage tracking, claims resolution, and turnover to the Owner.
Safety & Environmental
- Implement environmental permits and regulatory requirements applicable to the project; and
- Maintain knowledge of Company safety policies and procedures, assist with their implementation and enforcement in the field, and actively participate in weekly Crew Safety Meetings and monthly Mass Safety Meetings.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
May manage and oversee the work of Co-Op students.
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 6 months construction engineering experience and/or training; or
- 2 years related experience and/or training; and
- Beginner knowledge of construction equipment & techniques, drawing & specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to the project.
Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements
- Required Company or regulatory certifications; and
- Required Company safety certifications.
LANGUAGE, MATH, AND REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents;
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or request for changes/claims from subcontractors, Management, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or Owners;
- Ability to effectively present information to Management and/or public groups;
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals geometry and trigonometry;
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations;
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; and
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions furnished in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
