Our agency is looking for a part time Literacy Coordinator to manage our Community Adult Literacy Program, low barrier and accessible literacy programming to assist adult learners with 1-to-1 or group tutoring in reading, writing, numeracy, digital literacy, financial literacy and essential skills. Founded in 1993, the Comox Valley Lifelong Learning Centre is the only community-based literacy organization serving populations between Black Creek and Denman Island.

Schedule: Monday through Thursday (9AM -3PM)
Rate: $24.00 per hour
Hours: 20 hours per week
JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal and written skills
- Sound knowledge of digital programs including Microsoft 365 and social media tools.
- Volunteer management skills
- Knowledgeable of challenges and barriers faced by adults with low literacy skills
- Efficient time and general management skills
- Knowledge of community supports in the Comox Valley an asset
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
DESIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Post-Secondary Degree in Education, or Social Sciences or
- Diploma in technical sciences or education as well as 2 years’ relevant experience
- Education and/or experience in adult literacy
- Experience working with volunteers
- Experience in program development and coordination
- Experience working with marginalized populations
POSITION SUMMARY:
Volunteer Coordinator
- Solicit, recruit, screen, interview, and provide training to all potential tutors
- Lead the development and delivery of tutor training materials
- Collaborate in the development of procedures relating to the adult literacy program
- Recruit volunteers using an inclusive and diverse approach
Tutor- Learner Liaison
- Interview learners, do informal assessments, make necessary referrals
- Match learners with tutors or programs
- Monitor progress
- Provide tutors with support
Outreach
- Provide workshops and presentations to community partners
- Deliver and structure offsite programs
- Liaise with other literacy and community programs as time permits
Administration
- Keep and maintain learner and tutor files
- Keep and report necessary statistics re: learners, tutors, inquiries, referrals, etc.
