Now Hiring: Summer Student Position
Communities Against Violence (CAV) is currently accepting resumes for a Summer Student position serving the Avalon West catchment area. This exciting opportunity focuses on community outreach, violence prevention education, and helping deliver our 2026 summer reading program for children and families.
The successful applicant will work closely with the public, assist with interactive children’s programming, support community events and educational initiatives, and help promote programs and services throughout the region. This position is ideal for a post-secondary student interested in Social Sciences, community work, education, or nonprofit organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support outreach and violence prevention education initiatives
- Assist in planning and delivering children’s activities and summer reading programs
- Engage with community members and partner organizations
- Participate in public presentations and community events
- Help with administrative duties using Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Docs, Canva, and related tools
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary student preferred
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Comfortable working with children and the public
- Organized, outgoing, and able to work independently
- Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the region
- Evening and weekend availability as needed
- Certificate of Conduct with Vulnerable Sector Check required
Previous volunteer or work experience with children, nonprofit organizations, or community programs is considered an asset.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 weeks
Pay: $16.35 per hour
Expected hours: 30 per week
