Lead the tax, audit & technical accounting function at a company reversing climate change!
Ever wanted to be the go-to tax and accounting expert at a company literally pulling carbon out of the sky
Our client is a global leader in Direct Air Capture technology, and they need an experienced CPA to step in and lead their tax, audit, and technical accounting function while a key team member is on maternity leave. This isn't a back-office number-crunching gig. You'll be the primary advisor shaping how a rapidly scaling, U.S.-parented cleantech company handles corporate tax, audit, and complex accounting judgment calls, with real autonomy and a seat at the table.
Why this role is different:
Most "tax and accounting" jobs have you buried in month-end close. Not this one. Day-to-day bookkeeping is handled by the rest of the finance team - your job is the interesting stuff: interpreting complex transactions, defending technical tax positions, working directly with engineering teams on SR&ED, and being the person KPMG and PwC call when something gets complicated. While actual salary will be heavily dependent on candidate experience and credentials, we're working within a $115-150,000 band.
What you'll actually be doing:
- Owning corporate tax — leading Canadian T2 compliance, working directly with PwC, and navigating the tax implications of financing, restructuring, and cross-border transactions
- Being the U.S. GAAP & IFRS expert — providing guidance on technical accounting treatment for transactions that don't fit neatly into a textbook, including reporting requirements that flow up to the U.S. parent
- Running point on audit — serving as the primary contact for KPMG's annual audit and turning "please explain this" requests into clear, defensible answers
- (Bonus points) Diving into SR&ED — if you've got experience with SR&ED claims, technical eligibility assessments, or CRA reviews, that's a big plus — though it's not a dealbreaker if you don't
- Shaping transfer pricing governance — helping build out intercompany documentation and processes as the company grows
What we need from you:
- CPA designation, with 5–7+ years of progressive experience across audit, corporate tax, or technical accounting
- Hands-on experience with T2 preparation and a strong grasp of U.S. GAAP; these two are must-haves
- The confidence to operate independently, research gray-area issues, and hold your own with auditors, tax advisors, and engineers alike
- SR&ED exposure is a strong asset, but we won't rule you out without it
Location & timing:
This role is based near Squamish, BC, but we're open to candidates relocating from anywhere. The one firm requirement: you'll need to be able to move and start work before October 1, 2026.
The details: This is a 20-month contract covering a maternity leave, reporting to the Director of Finance. It's a genuine opportunity to broaden your technical scope — working across tax, audit, SR&ED, and transfer pricing — at a company solving one of the hardest problems on the planet.
Interested Apply now, we're moving quickly to fill this role ahead of the October start date!
