LUSO Community Services is a neighbourhood resource centre dedicated to fostering inclusiveness and well being through the delivery of compassionate, responsive programs and services for individuals experiencing adversity
We provide programs and services in the London community for children, youth, families, and seniors of culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Basic Needs & Community Support Coordinator facilitates services for residents living in Northeast London and Argyle area that support access to basic needs including food security. Populations served include high-risk, low income households who are diverse in terms age, race, language, etc.
Basic Needs & Community Support services provided by LUSO include:
- Community Resource Portable ( Emergency Food Cupboard) (access to food, clothing, hygiene, diapers, infant formula)
- Mobile Food Bank (in partnership with the London Food Bank)
- March Break and Summer Breakfast Program for children and youth
- Programs that support food security and skill building (ie Food Families Program, Pop-Up Markets, Community Meals)
- Supporting London Good Food Box program with facilitating orders, pick-up, delivery etc.
- Community Events and Activities for resident engagement (ie Resident BBQ’s, Community Fair, etc.)
- Other Community Development initiatives to support vulnerable populations such as low income families, seniors, newcomers, women
REPORTING: The Basic Needs & Community Support Coordinator will receive day-to-day supervision/consultation by LUSO’s Executive Director in the form of formal supervision meetings as well as informal support as requested by the Coordinator.
POSITION DETAILS: The position is full time, 35 hours per week. It is a contract position until July 30, 2027 (with possibility of an extension) to fill a Maternity Leave.

- Candidate must be available to work some evenings and weekends to support community activities and events to meet program objectives
- Services are provided in-person, this is not a virtual or hybrid position
- Position is situated at LUSO’s main office
- This is NOT a summer position
KEY DUTIES:
- Assist individuals and families to overcome crises and to meet their basic needs through the facilitation of services including Community Resource Portable, Northeast Food Depot, etc.
- Provide individuals and families with Information & Referrals to supports related to clothing, food, subsidy, shelter, income, health care, etc.
- Provide clients with support and advocacy related to basic needs
- Conduct outreach activities to inform residents of available programs/services
- Nurture community pride through activities and events that promote information sharing and engagement of families living in the area
- Maintain stock of resources available to residents at Community Portable, including food rescue and donation pickups, grocery shopping, etc.
- Work closely with other service providers, partners and key stakeholders to participate, lead and/or assist in the development/creation of new programs or modify existing programs/services that support residents living in NE London. This includes activities that assist with development of life and social skills, which may include: men and women’s support groups, collective kitchens, seniors support, parenting groups etc.
- Participate in neighbourhood-level and city-wide committees that address basic needs and food security (London Good Food Box, Northeast Basic Needs Community Group, Child & Youth Network Poverty Sub-Group, and more)
- Liaison and contact for food rescue initiatives (London Food Coalition, etc.) Provide guidance, support and supervision to Student Placements and Volunteers
- Collect, input and maintain program data for the purposes of reporting, planning and trend analysis
- Develop measurement tools to capture resident feedback, including facilitation of participant surveys
- Communicate program outcomes and impact through the submission of reports to key funders, as well as past and potential community donors
- Research and write funding applications, grant proposals, etc. to support program fund development
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Human Services or Equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience in the field of social or human services
- Experience working with vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of community development practices
- Knowledge of social services and support programs
- Previous experience developing, implementing and facilitating community programs
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to connect with community members and build relationships
- Proven ability to work effectively and respectfully with people of lived experiences
- Capacity to relate well to professionals and community members
- Strong and adaptable verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational, time management and problem solving skills
- Independent, resourceful, strategic
- Strong collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary team
- Previous experience supervising and supporting student placements and/or volunteers
- Proficiency with Microsoft office, email, internet, social media
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds on a regular basis
- Safe Food Handling certification required
- Vulnerable Person’s Police Screening- willing to obtain at own cost and prior to commencing employment
- First Aid and CPR or willing to obtain at own cost and prior to commencing employment
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is a requirement for the position
- Second language an asset

Wages: $25.00-$26.00 per hour
Additionally, LUSO offers:
- Paid winter shut-down between Christmas and New Years
