Our client, is seeking a senior-level Safety Assurance Engineer to support complex rail and transit programs across Canada and North America. This role focuses on leading system safety and risk assurance activities across the full project lifecycle. You’ll work closely with technical teams, clients, and regulators on high?profile rail initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead system safety and risk assurance activities across rail and transit projects
- Develop and implement project-specific safety assurance strategies and plans
- Manage hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety requirement allocation
- Prepare and review key safety deliverables, including safety plans, safety cases, and hazard logs
- Facilitate safety workshops (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP) and formal risk reviews
- Ensure alignment with applicable rail safety standards and Canadian regulatory frameworks
- Support system integration, testing, validation, and commissioning from a safety perspective
- Contribute to independent safety, audit, or compliance activities as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligibility for registration in Canada
- Demonstrated experience in rail or transit safety assurance or RAMS engineering
- Strong working knowledge of system safety lifecycle and hazard management processes
- Hands-on experience producing or reviewing formal safety assurance documentation
- Familiarity with international rail safety standards/ CENELEC Certification (e.g., EN 50126/50128/50129 or equivalent)
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering and project teams
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with signaling systems (CBTC, ETCS) or major rail subsystems
- Exposure to Independent Safety Assessment (ISA), ICP, or audit activities
- Previous experience on Canadian rail or transit projects
