Looking for a Semi-Retired Professional Who Still Wants to Work (Without the Full-Time commitment)
We’re a busy seasonal pool and backyard leisure store looking for an experienced, reliable person to take ownership of our retail store operations during our busiest months.
If you’ve successfully run a retail store before and enjoy keeping things organized, leading a team, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks—this could be a great fit.
This role is ideal for a recent retiree, semi-retired professional, former store manager, business owner, or operations leader who wants to stay active and involved—but on a flexible schedule.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be the person who makes sure the store runs properly day-to-day:
- Run the daily operations of the retail store and showroom
- Manage inventory, purchasing, and ordering (including sea can storage)
- Make sure products are stocked, organized, and ready when needed
- Hire, train, and mentor the sales team
- Keep the store organized, clean, and running efficiently
- Step in to support customer service when needed
- Spot problems early and improve processes before issues arise
- Take ownership of the store's day-to-day operational details so management can focus on growth
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Working long retail hours
- Being tied to a fixed schedule
- Closing every night or working every weekend
- Standing behind a cash register all day
What We’re Looking For
- At least 5 years of retail management experience
- Experience running a store or retail operation independently
- Strong background in business, store operations, inventory, purchasing, and merchandising
- Experience hiring, training, and leading staff
- Someone who enjoys mentoring younger team members
- Organized, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership
- Experience in larger-format retail (hardware, garden centre, pool/spa, home improvement, etc.) is a strong asset
The Schedule
We’re flexible and realistic about what this role should look like.
A typical week might include:
- Around 20–30 hours per week
- 3 days per week
- Shorter or morning-focused shifts
- More time during peak season, less during quiet periods
We’ll build a schedule that works for the right person.
Seasonal Role
Our business is seasonal, operating primarily from spring through fall. Winter layoff is expected in November.
This makes it a great fit if you:
- Travel in the winter(snowbirds or retirees)
- Want time off after the busy season
- Prefer a role that isn’t year-round
Additional Details
- Reliable transportation required (no public transit access)
Compensation
Competitive hourly pay based on experience
Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
Application question(s):
- Have you managed inventory, purchasing, merchandising, and staff?
- Do you have reliable transportation to our Kanata location? (There is no public transit available.)
- Are you looking for a flexible seasonal position that runs until November?
- We are specifically looking for someone with 5 years of retail management, not cashier or sales representatives. Do you have at least five years of retail management or operations experience?
