The Cab Refurbisher will serve as the go-to person for all locomotive cab improvements, refurbishments, and modifications. This hands-on role requires a mechanically inclined individual with some carpentry and handyman experience, who can work independently, stay focused, and ensure the cab is fully prepared for service. From replacing components to fabricating brackets, plumbing adjustments, and interior fit-and-finish work, this position is key to the reliability, safety, and functionality of refurbished locomotives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform cab refurbishments including flooring, ceiling, trim, insulation, seating, and controls.
· Conduct window and wiper removal/replacement, and door lock/weather stripping installation.
· Replace or repair cab amenities such as heaters, microwaves, fridges, and hotplates.
· Handle lavatory and toilet corrections, including gate valves and PVC plumbing where required.
· Install and service safety equipment including fire extinguishers, spine boards, and toolboxes.
· Perform light fabrication (cutting trim, drilling, fitting brackets, etc.) as needed for modifications.
· Ensure cabs are cleaned, organized, and ready for electricians and other trades to perform their work.
· Work with electricians and mechanics during larger locomotive overhauls and safety upgrades.
· Conduct assessments of incoming locomotives, clean and prep cabs for modification and service.
· Maintain workplace cleanliness and efficiency; manage work areas to ensure a safe and organized environment.
· Other work-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Previous experience in carpentry, construction, or general handyman roles required.
· Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to work with both wood and steel materials.
· Experience with basic plumbing repairs (valves, PVC, fixtures) considered a strong asset.
· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and instructions.
· Excellent organizational and site management skills — able to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
· Bilingualism, French speaking, considered an asset.
· Valid Ontario driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract.
· Must successfully pass all required training, background check, and drug/alcohol testing.
