Position Overview
The Electro-Mechanical Technician is responsible for the assembly, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic and electro-mechanical drilling equipment used in oil and gas operations. This role requires a high degree of technical aptitude, precision, and attention to detail while working with electronic chassis, control panels, wiring assemblies, and associated components. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all equipment is assembled and tested in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and established procedures to support safe, reliable, and efficient field operations.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, wire, service, and repair electronic and electro-mechanical drilling equipment in accordance with technical specifications, engineering drawings, and established procedures.
- Read, interpret, and accurately follow wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, assembly drawings, parts lists, and technical documentation.
- Perform high-temperature SN99.6 soldering in accordance with Pacesetter quality standards and industry best practices.
- Assemble electronic chassis, control panels, wiring harnesses, cables, and surface wiring while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
- Identify, inspect, and verify electronic components to ensure proper installation and functionality.
- Conduct functional testing and quality inspections to verify equipment performance prior to release for operational use.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical issues, completing repairs as required.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, testing, and completed work in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure work areas remain organized, clean, and compliant with established 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, quality standards, and applicable industry regulations.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and reliability.
- Assist with inventory management of electronic components, materials, and consumables as required.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Education, Experience, Technical Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years of recent experience assembling electronic or electro-mechanical equipment within the oil and gas industry.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical documentation.
- Proven experience performing precision soldering and electronic assembly work.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and electronic test equipment.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
- IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certification or equivalent electronic assembly training.
- Experience assembling electronic control systems, drilling tools, or industrial instrumentation.
- Familiarity with quality control processes and electronic testing procedures.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, permanent position based in SE Calgary, Alberta.
- Shop environment requiring frequent standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional overtime may be required to support operational priorities.
