Position Title: Engineering Manager

TMC Manufacturing Company, Inc., along with its subsidiary TMC2 (1218146 BC Ltd) is a scientific material supplier based in North Vancouver, BC that produces key components for medical diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The company is currently expanding its facilities, having developed proprietary technology to produce ultra-purified materials used to produce cutting edge cancer detection and treatment.
Position Overview:
The Engineering Manager will provide technical leadership and strategic direction across the engineering department, overseeing Design Engineers and Facilities Engineers. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day engineering operations, driving project execution, and ensuring that all engineering work meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance technical expertise with strong people management and organizational skills to deliver projects successfully from concept to completion. The Engineering Manager will work effectively alongside engineers and the production team, sharing knowledge and fostering open communication to improve project outcomes and collaborative problem-solving.
Responsibilities:
· Oversee, lead, and mentor a team of Design Engineers and Facilities Engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance work environment.
· Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and support the professional development and growth of team members.
· Assign tasks, manage workloads, and allocate resources effectively across multiple projects and priorities.
· Oversee all engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
· Monitor project progress, identify risks and bottlenecks early, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
· Review and approve engineering deliverables including designs, drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications before submission or implementation.
· Communicate and collaborate with Production and New Project Development team to make valuable contributions to projects that enable the successful completion of system builds.
· Provide technical guidance and direction on complex mechanical design, systems integration, and facilities engineering challenges.
· Review and approve engineering designs, technical drawings, and models to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with project requirements.
· Lead/ facilitate design reviews, ensuring thorough evaluation of designs for performance, safety, and practicality.
· Establish and enforce engineering standards, drafting conventions, design procedures, and best practices across the department.
· Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in engineering design.
· Identify and implement opportunities to improve engineering workflows, tools, processes, and team efficiency.
· Mentor and support Design Engineers (EITs) and Facilities Engineers to help them grow their skills and confidence.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Mechanical Design or Associate degree in Mechanical Design or equivalent practical experience. Advanced Mechanical Engineering degree (Master's degree or higher) is preferred.
· P. Eng designation is required.
· Minimum 8+ years of experience in engineering design, with at least 2–3 years in a team lead or management role; strong proficiency in CAD software is required, with strong preference towards experience in fusion 360.
· Solid understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
· Ability to read, interpret, and produce technical drawings, schematics, assembly instructions, and engineering specifications.
· Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and hold a team accountable while working effectively across the organization.
· Experience with project management software and collaboration tools is an asset.
