The product line includes violins, violas, cellos, double bass, bows, cases, sheet music, and more. Our in-house luthiers are here to help our clients whenever they need service or have questions and concerns. Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and passionate Luthier to join our team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in the art of violin making and repair, with a focus on all instruments within the violin family. This role involves hands-on craftsmanship, customer interaction, and collaboration with our workshop team to ensure the highest standards of quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instrument Repair and Restoration: Repair, restore, and set up violins, violas, cellos, and double basses. Address issues with sound quality, structural integrity, and playability.
- Setup and Maintenance: Perform setup tasks, including shaping and cutting nuts, bridges, sound posts, and adjusting them for optimal performance. Conduct regular maintenance and inspections.
- Craftsmanship: Select and work with wood, create instrument parts using hand tools, machines, etc. Utilize jigs, templates, and finishing techniques to achieve high-quality results.
- Client Interaction: Interface with clients by answering questions, provide estimates, and communicate effectively with the Sales and Acquisition teams as well as Customer Service.
- Workshop Management: Assist in daily operations such as cleaning and organizing the workspace. Maintain a clean and well-kept workshop environment.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of a violin making/repair school or completion of a relevant apprenticeship.
- Experience: Preferred but not required: two years of professional experience in the restoration, repair, and setup of violins, violas, and cellos. Experience with professional string players is preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency with hand tools (knives, planes, chisels) and machines (bandsaws, routers, sanders). Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with clients, team members, and other stakeholders.
- Personal Attributes: Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and strong emotional intelligence. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Inspect and determine repair needs for products.
- Maintain inventory, order materials, and manage sales records.
- Assist in recruiting and hiring new staff and participate in team decision-making.
- Oversee and ensure the quality of restoration work and collaborate with the Acquisition Team to acquire new inventory.
