King Animal Hospital is seeking hardworking, dependable, and compassionate Stable Attendants to join our growing Equine team. About Us
King Animal Hospital is a privately owned, state-of-the-art referral and emergency hospital serving both equine and small animal patients. Our 60,000 sq. ft. facility on 50 acres in King City, Ontario is equipped with advanced diagnostics and supported by a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
Our Equine service provides advanced medical and surgical care to horses requiring emergency, referral, and specialty treatment. Stable Attendants play a vital role in ensuring our patients are comfortable, safe, and cared for throughout their stay.
Working alongside veterinarians, RVTs, Animal Care Attendants, and barn staff, you will help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient hospital environment while supporting exceptional patient care.
What You'll Do
As a Stable Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily care and comfort of our equine patients and maintaining the hospital's barn facilities.
Patient & Stable Care
- Clean, disinfect, and prepare stalls for incoming patients
- Feed horses according to individualized treatment and feeding plans
- Refill water buckets and monitor water intake
- Provide fresh bedding and maintain clean, comfortable stalls
- Observe patients for changes in appetite, attitude, or behaviour and report concerns to the veterinary team
- Turn horses in and out of paddocks as directed
- Apply and remove blankets, fly masks, and other approved equipment
- Assist with safe handling and movement of horses throughout the hospital
- Ensure patient belongings are organized and returned at discharge
Hospital & Facility Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the stalls, treatment areas, and surrounding property
- Manage manure collection and disposal
- Sweep aisles, remove debris, and maintain a safe working environment
- Clean and disinfect water buckets, feed tubs, equipment, and common areas
- Restock bedding, hay, feed, and stable supplies
- Assist with inventory of barn supplies and notify leadership when stock is low
- Operate equipment safely and report maintenance concerns promptly
Team Support
- Assist Animal Care Attendants, RVTs, and veterinarians with patient movement and restraint when appropriate
- Help prepare stalls for surgical, medical, or emergency admissions
- Support hospital operations during busy periods and emergency cases
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Equine team
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working around horses is required
- Experience working in a boarding stable, breeding facility, racetrack, veterinary hospital, or equine facility is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of basic horse handling and stable safety
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a physically demanding environment
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight support when required
