Job Summary
Reporting to the Master Data Governance Manager, the Data Technical Analyst is responsible for analyzing, designing, and supporting data solutions that enable accurate, consistent, and reliable data across systems and business processes. This role works at the intersection of business analysis and technical execution, translating business requirements into functional specifications, supporting data integrations, performing data profiling, and ensuring data flows operate efficiently and securely. The analyst collaborates closely with developers, data architects, business stakeholders, and governance teams to support data initiatives, system enhancements, and operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering & Analysis
- Work with business stakeholders to understand data needs, processes, and pain points.
- Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications, data mapping documents, and workflow
requirements.
- Analyze existing data structures, integrations, and systems to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
Data Profiling & Quality
- Perform data profiling using SQL or data tools to understand data patterns, anomalies, and quality issues.
- Identify root causes of data problems and work with technical and business teams on remediation strategies.
- Validate data during system changes, integrations, and migrations.
Data Integration & Transformation
- Support the design and maintenance of data interfaces, APIs, ETL/ELT processes, and batch jobs.
- Develop or support transformation logic and mapping between source and target systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting integration failures, data inconsistencies, or process errors.
Technical Documentation & Metadata
- Create and maintain data mapping documents, interface specifications, workflow diagrams, and solution documentation.
- Support metadata management by documenting definitions, data flows, and lineage.
Testing & Validation
- Develop and execute test cases for data processes, integrations, and system enhancements.
- Conduct validation of data outputs, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Log and track issues, working with developers or vendors to resolve defects.
Systems & Operational Support
- Support operational data processes such as batch jobs, data loads, and scheduled updates.
- Assist with system configurations, rule updates, or MDM workflow changes (where applicable).
- Monitor data jobs, logs, and performance to proactively detect issues.
Project Support
- Participate in system upgrades, implementations, or data-related projects as a technical data resource.
- Support migration activities by analyzing source data, mapping target structures, and validating load results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, governance, and business SMEs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field or 3-7 years relevant work experience
- Strong SQL skills for profiling, validation, and querying across multiple data sources.
- Experience working with data integration tools (e.g., SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory).
- Understanding of relational databases, data warehousing concepts, and data modelling.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical deliverables.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Experience with master data management platforms (SAP MDG, Informatica MDM, Oracle MDM, etc.).
- Experience with API integrations, JSON, XML, or message queues
- Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Knowledge of data governance principles and frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid project environments.
