CONCRETE FLATWORK PREP/FINISHER (experienced)
The Flatwork Prep/Finisher is responsible for the placement, finishing, protecting, and repairing of concrete surfaces, primarily flat horizontal surfaces such as floors, sidewalks, driveways, patios, and slabs. This role involves working with hand and power tools to smooth and level freshly poured concrete, apply curing compounds, and create desired finishes including broom, troweled, or decorative patterns.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Setting forms that hold the concrete in place – install forms, level and square forms
- Place, level and compacting a stone base prior to pouring concrete
- Drill, place and tie any welded wire mesh and/or rebar into place for concrete pours
- Pouring, smoothing, and leveling concrete using a rake, trowel, float, and screed. This includes handheld tools and power tool versions
- Finishing all types of concrete surfaces using a variety of hand tools and gas-powered machines up to and including large flatwork pours
- Cleaning and inspecting concrete surfaces for pouring issues
- Cncrete saw cutting and stripping of forms after pours are complete.
- Curb and sidewalk experience (considered asset)
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Proficiency with measuring equipment, and reading blueprints and construction drawings.
- Knowledge of hand-held and power tools including power vibrators, polishers, cutting saws, and edging tools.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Conduct yourself in a professional/mature manner maintaining co-operative working relationships with all Company employees including customers, subcontractors, owners, suppliers etc.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to change
- A willingness to learn on the job and expand knowledge base
Education and Experience:
- OSSD or High School Equivelency
- Minimum 2 years work experience as a concrete labourer progressively to a finisher.
- Solid understanding of safety protocols on construction sites and the ability to work in compliance with OHSA regulations.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to interact with a diverse workforce preferred.
