We have an opening for a Street Lighting Designer in our Calgary, AB office.
This position is posted as Street Lighting Designer to reflect the specialized focus of the role. The successful candidate will be hired with the internal title of Electrical Designer, consistent with team structure and classification.
Responsibilities:
- Work within an established team of engineers, designers, and drafters, focused on electrical, lighting, and traffic signal systems projects within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal team members, municipal authorities, utilities, and various project stakeholders over the course of project design and specification development.
- Contribute to the successful design, production, coordination, and management of electrical, lighting, and traffic signal systems projects.
- Develop power distribution, lighting, and auxiliary systems designs in AutoCAD, AGi32 light software, and/or MicroStation such as single line diagrams, wiring schematics, photometric layouts, grounding details, etc.
- Prepare and review wire sizing, voltage drop, and conduit capacity calculations.
- Prepare technical reports, tender documentation, and field support (including commissioning/site inspection).
- Ensure that engineering deliverables (e.g. drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures, and sound engineering practices.
- Review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs.
- Ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high-quality including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final reports.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- 0–4 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably in street/roadway lighting and electrical systems design; candidates with transferable industry experience will also be considered.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma.
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and AGi32 lighting design software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders (clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities).
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and coordinate with drafting, civil, survey, and construction disciplines.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
A few qualifications that would help you succeed:
- Experience in municipal roadway lighting design; familiarity with traffic signal systems is an asset.
- P.Eng. or P.Tech designation in Alberta, or eligibility to obtain.
- Experience with site inspections, construction support, or contract administration.
- Experience contributing to large, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Experience in a consulting environment.
