Key Responsibilities

Biology Laboratory Preparations

Culture/maintain bacteria, plants, and other living organisms required for the biology labs
Prepare media, standards, dilutions, buffers & stains
Maintain knowledge of new developments & improvements in biological techniques
Perform DNA extractions, digestions and ligations
Ensure that all laboratories are accurately prepared, set up, organized and cleaned up for the biology courses offered through the University Transfer department
Maintain equipment, inventories, and lab workspaces

Quality Assurance and Safety

Update and maintain lab prep notes, chemical inventories, live culture inventories, and lab material inventories
Prepare samples for safe transport to internal laboratories with required documentation
Perform all the necessary safety procedures appropriate to the lab and promptly report any deficiencies or hazards
Maintain laboratory cleanliness and safety in adherence to Occupational Health & Safety, HPTA, and WHMIS legislation
Maintain adequate quality control in the lab with appropriate documentation.
Test and troubleshoot laboratory procedures to ensure accurate results

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in a biology related field is required
Minimum of two years of related experience
A strong biology background with applied experience in lab procedures is required
Strong bench skills and good attention to detail
Familiar with laboratory safety procedures, aseptic techniques, and good microbiology practices.
Strong knowledge of hazardous chemicals used in biological labs
Experience in a CL2 facility would be considered an asset.
Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
Willingness to learn new techniques

This is a Full-Time Temporary AUPE appointment at the Lloydminster campus commencing August 17, 2026, and ending April 30, 2027 (with the possibility of an extension). The current salary range is $51,748 - $65, 213. For further information, please contact Jackie Bender ([email protected])
