Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Directional Drill Locator to join our underground utility construction team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to accurately locate and guide drill heads during the installation of underground utilities, including telecommunications, hydro, gas, water, and sewer infrastructure.
An AZ Driver's Licence is required, as the position may involve operating commercial vehicles, transporting equipment, and supporting various construction activities across multiple job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor locating equipment to accurately track HDD drill head location, depth, and alignment.
- Communicate real-time drilling information to the Drill Operator to ensure safe and accurate bore paths.
- Read and interpret utility locates, construction drawings, maps, and site plans.
- Identify and maintain required clearances from existing underground and overhead utilities.
- Complete daily safety inspections of locating equipment, vehicles, and job sites.
- Assist with drill setup, breakdown, tooling changes, mud mixing, and general labour activities as required.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment in accordance with all traffic regulations and company policies.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain accurate vehicle logs.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including utility crossing procedures and confined space requirements where applicable.
- Attend safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training sessions.
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite and company equipment.
- Support crew members in completing projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Qualifications Required
- Valid AZ Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Strong understanding of underground utility construction practices.
- Ability to read utility locates, engineering drawings, and site plans.
- Knowledge of Ontario utility damage prevention and safe excavation practices.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and travel as required.
Pay: $35.51-$42.68 per hour
