POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Attendant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the facility and its systems are well-maintained, safe, and fully operational for residents, tenants, staff, and visitors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine building maintenance and repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting)
- Inspect and maintain facility systems, including HVAC, lighting, and safety equipment
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and urgent repair needs
- Conduct preventative maintenance tasks and safety checks
- Ensure compliance with occupational health, fire safety, and building codes
- Assist with seasonal duties such as snow removal, salting, and minor landscaping
- Maintain maintenance logs, reports, and inventory of tools and supplies
- Coordinate with external contractors and service vendors as needed
- Operate and service nursing home equipment such as tractors, vehicles, and lawn mowers
- Maintain building grounds such as mowing lawns, planting flowers, snow removal and landscaping
- Other duties as may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 Academic or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in building maintenance, preferably in a healthcare, senior living, or institutional setting
- Experience in painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems is strongly required, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, two of which must be in a nursing home.
- Computer literacy is an asset, especially Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of Facility Management Software (Preventive Maintenance & Systems Controls) required.
- Valid driver’s license required. Possession of a Class 4 license would be an added advantage
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repairs
- Knowledge of safety codes and regulations applicable to long-term care facilities is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, and work orders
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to relate to the elderly and clients who are mentally and/or physically challenged/impaired
- Physically able to perform all assigned duties.
This position is part of the NBU (New Brunswick Union) bargaining unit. Employment terms and conditions are governed by the applicable collective agreement.
