The Ukrainian National Federation of Canada – Avalon Branch, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, producing, and promoting a vibrant Ukrainian community and culture in Newfoundland and Labrador. About the Role
The Ukrainian National Federation – Avalon Branch, offers a dynamic day camp program for children aged 5-12, where they can participate in a variety of activities that foster creativity, social skills, and intellectual development. The program includes workshops, sports activities, twice-weekly field trips, cultural events, and opportunities to learn about Ukrainian traditions.
The Day Camp Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the camp, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants, and coordinating the work of counselors. This role requires excellent organizational skills, leadership, and the ability to provide support and development for children in a fun and safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Day Camp Coordinator will report to the Camp Director, and will be responsible for:
- Organizing and coordinating the daily operations of the camp for children aged 5-12.
- Coordinating a team of counselors, ensuring support, professional development, and teamwork
- Overseeing the safe and inclusive organization of activities like workshops, sports, outdoor programs, and cultural events.
- Maintaining effective communication with parents regarding children's progress, any concerns, and daily activities.
- Overseeing the health and safety protocols, including emergency procedures.
- Creating a positive and supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable and engaged.
- Addressing discipline and mediating conflicts among campers using supportive strategies.
- Planning and leading themed days, activities, and celebrations to recognize children’s accomplishments.
- Ensuring the camp environment remains clean, organized, and safe.
- Providing regular feedback to counselors and organizing meetings to discuss program improvements.
Qualifications and Desired Skills
- Experience working with children aged 5-12 is an asset.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team and motivate others.
- Passionate about children’s development and creating a fun, educational, and safe environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and coordinate activities effectively.
- Ability to communicate well with parents, children, and staff.
- Experience in organizing and leading events related to arts or physical activities is an asset.
- First Aid and CPR-C certification is an asset (training may be provided).
- Positive, adaptable, and solution-oriented attitude.
-Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
- The applicant must be legally allowed to work in Canada (without restrictions on working with children)
- The successful candidate will be required to submit a clear and current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector check from RNC

Availability
Position Start Date:
Training/Pre-camp planning: June 22 – June 28 (30 hrs/week)
Full-time: June 29 – August 21 or August 28 (37.5 hrs/week, depending on site assignment)
Depending on the camp location, the position will run until end of August.
