ARBI is a nonprofit community-based rehabilitation centre providing neurorehabilitation and family support for survivors of moderate-severe acquired brain injury. Your Opportunity
Reporting to the Team Lead, Support for Community Living (SCL), the Community Living & Access Assistant (CLA) plays a vital role in enhancing the independence, well-being, and quality of life of adults living with acquired brain injury.
Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, the CLA supports the delivery of individualized recreation and community-based programming that promotes meaningful participation, skill development, and community inclusion. This role assists with planning, implementing, and evaluating client-centered activities while fostering positive relationships with clients, families, volunteers, students, and community partners.
The Community Living & Access Assistant provides one-on-one and group support in a variety of settings, including ARBI, clients' homes, and throughout the community. The successful candidate also assists with program coordination, transportation planning, documentation, and volunteer support while ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
This is a fixed-term position ending March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension based on funding and organizational needs.

Key responsibility areas:
1. Client Support & Program Delivery – 60%
Responsible for providing direct client support through individualized and group programming that promotes independence, community participation, and overall well-being for adults living with acquired brain injury.
- Support adults with acquired brain injury in activities that promote independence at ARBI, home, and in the community.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized SCL programming and facilitate individual/group sessions.
- Provide respectful personal care assistance and support clients during community outings, including transportation coordination.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that promotes meaningful participation.
2. Collaboration & Communication – 25%
Responsible for collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, families, caregivers, and volunteers to ensure coordinated, client-centered service delivery.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team under the direction of the Team Lead, Support for Community Living (SCL), to support individualized client goals.
- Liaise with the Clinical Rehabilitation team and Team Lead, SCL, to monitor client progress and address emerging needs.
- Communicate regularly with family members, caregivers, and residential support teams to ensure coordinated care and address client-related concerns.
- Build positive relationships with community partners to support client participation and inclusion where appropriate.
- Provide orientation, training, and day-to-day guidance to volunteers and students, ensuring safe, effective, and meaningful participation in programming.
3. Administration & Professional Development – 15%
Responsible for supporting the effective delivery of programs through administrative tasks, documentation, and ongoing professional development.
- Complete administrative tasks including scheduling, documentation, reporting, and program support.
- Maintain accurate and timely client and program records in accordance with organizational standards.
- Participate in ongoing learning and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Support student placements and contribute to program quality improvement initiatives as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Team Leads and Director, Community Rehabilitation and Wellness Programs.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Rehabilitation, Human Services, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered
- Training or experience as a Therapy Assistant is preferred
- Experience working with individuals in neurorehabilitation or with acquired brain injury is preferred but not required
- Competence in group facilitation and person-centered program delivery is required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Comfortable supporting clients with personal care needs as required
- Valid Class 5 operator’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Valid vehicle insurance with a minimum of $2 million liability coverage, updated annually; insurance must indicate the vehicle is used for business purposes
- Current CPR and Standard First Aid certification
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel); familiarity with Jane software is considered an asset.
