Position Summary
Therapy services at the BC Centre for Ability includes the Early Intervention Therapy program which provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and social work services for over 1000 children and their families. Services are provided in the community, in the clinic setting and in group sessions determined by the goals of the client. Works with interdisciplinary teams to provide services to children and their family within the context of their community environments. Effective collaboration, communication and organizational skills will be paramount for this position. Services will be delivered in family homes, in clinic, in community settings and by virtual platforms. Departmental assignments are subject to operational and departmental needs.
Responsibilities
- Use Evidence Based Practice and Family Centered Practice to guide clinical reasoning

Responds to the service inquires and provides program information to clients and their families

Assists in the planning, coordination and evaluation of social work activities

Acts as a resource to clients and their families by providing information regarding community resources and access these resources, arranges referrals and facilitates wrap-around planning to meet the comprehensive needs of the clients and their families

Provides individualized coaching and support to clients, assisting them to practice and acquire skills identified in the social emotional intervention plan

Liaises with community and medical resources to meet the needs of the clients served

Arranges and conducts client/family meetings for service planning and review

Provides follow up support to clients as required

Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, medical liaison meetings, and in-services.

Maintain up to date records that meet agency and regulatory body requirements

Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and community partners

Undertake additional responsibilities as directed
Qualifications
-
Master’s degree in Social Work from an approved school of Social Work with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children with special needs

Basic knowledge and understanding of pediatric development and social development related to disability, family and cultural dynamics

Knowledge and understanding of the principle of Family Centered Practice

Practices with a commitment to inclusive practice and family centered care

Proven collaboration, communication and consultation skills

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Proven organization and time management skills are required

Ability to adapt to change and embrace new technology

Competency using a virtual platform, electronic client record system and word processing software

Must be registered with the BCCSW (regulatory body)

Valid driver’s license with reliable use of car for work with business insurance

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
