Senior Millwork Engineer – Architectural Millwork

Our client is seeking a Senior Millwork Engineer with direct experience producing detailed, production-ready drawings for custom architectural millwork.
You will engineer and detail wall paneling, cabinetry, bars, moldings, doors, and other custom woodwork. You will work closely with project managers, CNC programmers, and production teams to ensure every drawing package is accurate, buildable, and delivered on schedule.
This is not a general mechanical, civil, or construction-engineering position. Applicants must have direct architectural millwork, commercial woodworking, custom cabinetry, or store-fixture detailing experience.
Responsibilities
- Produce complete shop and production drawings for custom architectural millwork.
- Prepare details, dimensions, sections, hardware specifications, cut lists, flat layouts, and sequence drawings.
- Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, site measurements, photographs, and project requirements.
- Develop accurate 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD.
- Support Microvellum-based production and CNC programming workflows.
- Select appropriate materials, hardware, joinery, and construction methods.
- Prepare accurate bills of materials.
- Review redlines and complete drawing revisions before submission or release to production.
- Identify dimensional conflicts, missing information, and constructability concerns.
- Coordinate technical questions and drawing requirements with project managers, programmers, and production teams.
- Maintain organized project notes, drawing records, and ERP updates.
- Deliver accurate drawing packages within established schedules and engineering-hour budgets.
- Support troubleshooting when design or production issues arise.
Required Qualifications
- At least (5) five years of architectural millwork drafting or detailing experience.
- At least (5) five years of AutoCAD experience, including direct use within a millwork or commercial woodworking environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of custom cabinetry construction, hardware, materials, joinery, dowels, dados, and common millwork assembly methods.
- Experience producing detailed, buildable shop and production drawings.
- Ability to prepare sketches, layouts, technical details, and bills of materials.
- Strong attention to detail and drawing accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microvellum, SolidWorks, or SWOOD experience.
- Understanding of AWMAC or AWI standards.
- Hands-on cabinetmaking, carpentry, or woodworking experience.
- Experience supporting CNC programming or manufacturing workflows.
- Experience with high-end commercial, institutional, hospitality, entertainment, or retail millwork projects.
