About Edmonton Explorer
Launching in Summer 2026, the Edmonton Explorer is a signature hop-on/hop-off sightseeing experience designed to be the premier way for visitors to navigate the city. Operating a fleet of iconic “Molly Trolleys,” the tour provides a high-confidence transportation and storytelling layer that integrates directly with the new Edmonton Attractions Pass. The experience connects Edmonton’s most popular districts and cultural anchors through professional narration, highlighting the region’s Indigenous heritage, historic landmarks, and the vibrant life of the river valley.
Role Overview
Employed formally by SunDog Tours, the Driver/Guide is the public face of the Edmonton Explorer. This role requires the highly demanding dual capability of safely piloting a 38-passenger commercial vehicle through complex urban traffic while simultaneously delivering articulate, culturally sensitive, and engaging narrative hospitality. You will serve as a friendly, engaging, safe, and knowledgeable host, ensuring a seamless and reliable experience as guests explore the city.
Core Responsibilities
1. Safe Vehicle OperationSafely pilot a 38-passenger, vintage-style Molly Trolley through Edmonton's urban environments and the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Adhere to all commercial bus regulations and overarching transportation legalities.
2. Professional Storytelling & Guest ExperienceDeliver modular, bite-sized anecdotes using live narration rather than employing monotonous, automated recordings. Present accurate, culturally sensitive narratives covering Indigenous living cultures, the Hudson’s Bay Company trade network, urban growth, and the distinct ecology of the natural environment. Act as a friendly and engaging brand ambassador, assisting passengers with boarding and providing knowledgeable insights into the city's attractions.
3. Route & Schedule ReliabilityAdhere to a highly predictable, clockface-style timetable across a 19-stop circulatory route.Maintain strictly controlled service dwell times to ensure the integrity of the public schedule.
4. Digital Validation & TicketingUtilize the digital ticketing platform to validate mobile boarding passes & track guest stops in real-time on the trolley steps.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A valid Class 2 License is strictly required for this position. Drivers extract will be required.
- A naturally friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable communication style.
- Strong commitment to safety and situational awareness in busy urban traffic.
- Ability to balance the technical demands of driving with the interpersonal skills required for public speaking and guest interaction.
