Job Summary:
The Food Service Technician is responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on refrigeration and gas food service equipment. This position requires a dedicated technician who is continually learning their craft, disciplined in record-keeping, and flexible with work hours. As a member of the Service Team, you will support the Service and Parts department, serving a broad customer base in the Hamilton-Niagara and London areas, with occasional travel to other regions. This role ensures that our equipment is serviced in a timely and professional manner to meet the demands of our 24-hour service model.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and maintenance on refrigeration, gas food service equipment, and food preparation devices as needed.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, identifying parts for replacement or repair.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance to prevent downtime and ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Respond promptly to emergency service requests, resolving issues efficiently to minimize disruption.
- Participate in 24-hour on-call service rotations as required to support emergency service needs.
- Perform field service work at customer locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and surrounding regions.
- Maintain accurate records of service calls, work performed, and parts used via the company’s computerized system.
- Update service logs, inventory records, and track customer equipment history for future services.
- Manage inventory and ensure necessary parts are available for timely repairs, coordinating with the Service and Parts department as needed.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and team members regarding timelines, pricing, and repair status.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues using diagnostic tools and technical expertise.
- Service, maintain, and repair commercial food service and restaurant equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Work in diverse conditions, including heights and confined spaces.
- Adhere to company safety regulations and service standards.
Skills/Qualifications
- G2 TSSA license (required).
- 313A Refrigeration Mechanic certification. (required for dual-licensed candidates)
- Experience servicing and repairing a wide range of commercial food service and restaurant equipment is required.
- Experience servicing commercial refrigeration equipment (required for Dual-Licensed Technician candidates).
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience servicing commercial food service equipment (preferred)
- 10+ years of experience for Dual-Licensed Technicians. (preferred)
- Valid G Class driver’s license with a clean record. (required)
- Clean driving abstract required.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout the GTA and surrounding areas to customer locations.
- Must own and maintain the necessary tools required to perform service work.
- Fall arrest/ladder training, WHMIS training (Can be provided).
- Basic criminal record check (required).
- Servicing and repairing coffee and espresso machines is an asset
- First Aid training is an asset.
- Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail, ensuring thorough and accurate work.

Reports Directly To: Director of Parts and Service
Compensation Note: Compensation will be based on licensing, experience, and qualifications. Dual-licensed technicians will be considered at the higher end of the wage scale.
