Job Summary
Reporting to senior leadership, the Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing project management functions, supporting safe and successful project delivery, and strengthening operational performance across commercial construction teams. This role works closely with project managers, coordinators, estimating, business development, clients, and trade partners to support project priorities, capacity planning, profitability, and continuous improvement.
The Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in mentoring teams, promoting consistency, maintaining safety and quality standards, and helping ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee project management operations to support safe, timely, high-quality, and profitable delivery of commercial construction projects.
- Implement best practices, improve processes, and support continuous improvement across project teams.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, estimating, and business development to align project priorities with capacity, schedule, and profitability.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, trade partners, and project stakeholders while helping resolve project-related issues.
- Provide financial oversight for project budgets, forecasts, cost control, margin performance, and overall project financial health.
- Lead, coach, and support project managers and coordinators while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and quality expectations.
- Lead project turnover and close-out discussions to capture lessons learned and promote consistency across teams.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in commercial construction, including at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of construction operations, project delivery methods, safety standards, and quality standards.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop cross-functional construction teams.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and margin analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software, such as Procore.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver’s license.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP, GSC, or other project management or operations management credentials are preferred.
- Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, or other continuous improvement certifications are considered an asset.
Work Environment and Schedule
This role operates in a commercial construction environment and may involve a combination of office-based work, site visits, project meetings, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The Operations Manager may be required to work in active construction settings and adapt to changing project schedules, deadlines, site conditions, and operational priorities.
Work may involve travel to project sites, exposure to construction environments, and coordination with teams working in a variety of weather and site conditions. Flexibility may be required to support project needs and critical deadlines.
