Shelter Support Worker

The Housing Support Worker role will allow you to learn about how housing supports work in practical terms and will enable you to develop the skills required to work effectively with our residents & guests. You will be able to adapt your approach to suit a variety of situations and individuals. We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in working with our most vulnerable are being housed at either location.
As a Shelter Support Worker, you will work collaboratively with residents ensuring that each client is provided with person centered care and support and empowered to make changes in their lives, including linking them in with the necessary external agencies.
To succeed, you will have an excellent understanding of the issues faced by our unhoused and or vulnerably housed people. You will also have a sound understanding of the needs of people with low incomes, substance use and or mental health challenges and will be trauma informed.
Above all we are looking for a motivated, committed, compassionate and kind individual who has a genuine desire to support people to transform their lives. This would require the willingness to work one on one with our most vulnerable people.

Qualifications
- Diploma in a related Human or Social Services field
- At least one (1) year experience working in a related environment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Preferable experience in the community social services sector with working knowledge of community support agencies and resources and working with Indigenous community.
Requirements
- Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C.
- Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
- Naloxone Training
- Completion of Trauma Informed Practice
- Completion of Indigenous Awareness/Cultural Competency
- Experience in Crisis Intervention
- Completion of Domestic Violence Safety Training
Job Information
- Hourly Wage Rate $26.00 to 28.00 hour
- Work Location: 3600 block of 4th Ave and 3900 block of 8th Ave
- Work Days Shift Rotation of Monday through to Sunday
- Shift Times: Based on 24 hour clock as needed
- Weekly Hours: Varies based on staffing needs.
