A Tractor & Trailer Mechanic Helper assists heavy-duty mechanics in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of tractors, trailers, and commercial trucks. The role includes supporting shop operations, preparing tools and parts, and helping ensure vehicles are safe and operational.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist mechanics with truck and trailer repairs and preventive maintenance
- Help inspect brakes, suspension, tires, lights, and air systems
- Remove and install parts, tools, and equipment as directed
- Perform basic shop tasks such as greasing, oil changes, and cleaning components
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and work area
- Operate shop tools and equipment safely
- Assist in lifting and moving heavy truck parts
- Follow workplace safety procedures and company policies
- Record basic maintenance information and report issues to mechanics
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of truck and trailer components is an asset
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy materials
- Willingness to learn heavy-duty truck repair and maintenance
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Previous mechanical or shop experience is an advantage
Work Environment
- Works in truck repair shops or fleet maintenance facilities
- May require overtime, weekend work, or outdoor work conditions
- Exposure to grease, oil, noise, and heavy equipment operations
Pay: $17.60-$20.00 per hour
