Backcountry Host
As a Backcountry Host at Banff Trail Riders, you'll have the unique opportunity to live and work in stunning, remote lodges located 16 and 30 kilometers from Banff. Your days will involve preparing delicious meals for guests arriving and departing on horseback, maintaining a clean and welcoming lodge, and managing supplies. You'll also have the chance to explore the wilderness on horseback, as vehicle access is limited. While horseback riding experience is preferred, it's not a strict requirement. What's most important is your passion for the outdoors, your culinary skills, and your ability to thrive in a remote, self-sufficient environment.
This position will require you to:
- Prepare and cook delicious meals for guests arriving and departing on horseback.
- Maintain a clean and welcoming environment, including housekeeping tasks and general upkeep.
- Efficiently order, manage, and inventory groceries and supplies.
- Ride horseback to and from our lodges (Up to 6 hours)- experience is preferred but not essential.
- Embrace the challenges and rewards of living and working in a remote, unconventional setting.
Qualifications:
- Horseback riding experience is preferred but not essential. A comfort level with horses and mules is a must.
- Proven cooking and customer service experience.
- Food Safe and Pro Serve certified required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work well with others and independently.
- An interest in the Western and/or remote living lifestyle.
- Valid Standard First Aid required.
- Applications must include references.
This is a seasonal position, running from May to October
Staff accommodation may be available upon request.
