Position Summary
We are looking for a dedicated, resilient, and energetic Supervised Instructor Therapist (SIT) to join our team to provide intensive, individualized support for a specific adolescent client in the Oakville area. Reporting directly to a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA), you will be responsible for implementing comprehensive skill-acquisition and behaviour-reduction plans.
Because this role involves supporting a physically large youth who exhibits high-magnitude behaviours, the ideal candidate must possess strong physical stamina, confidence in crisis management, and a deep commitment to maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Therapeutic Relationship & Rapport: Build and maintain a strong, trusting, and supportive therapeutic relationship with the client. Utilize paired reinforcement to establish a safe connection, while maintaining clear clinical boundaries to effectively navigate and de-escalate aggressive behaviours and increase adaptive engagement.
- ABA Implementation: Execute individualized ABA programs focusing on adaptive fitness, functional communication, life skills, and emotional regulation under the close supervision of an RBA.
- Behaviour Management: Consistently and safely implement prescribed behaviour-reduction plans, including the utilization of approved physical crisis management and intervention techniques when high-magnitude or aggressive behaviours occur.
- Data Collection: Collect accurate, real-time data on target behaviours and skill acquisition to track developmental milestones and inform program adjustments.
- Safety & Ethics: Maintain the highest standards of safety, dignity, and clinical ethics during all sessions, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for both the client and you.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Current certification in a crisis management system (e.g., UMAB, Safe management, CPI, NVCI). Willingness to obtain certification is required.
- Proven experience working with adolescents on the autism spectrum who exhibit challenging, aggressive, or high-magnitude behaviours.
- Strong physical fitness, stamina, and the ability to safely implement physical crisis interventions (e.g., UMAB, BMS, CPI, or SAFE Management certification).
- A diploma or degree in a related field, such as Behavioural psychology, Behavioural science, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or Developmental Services Worker.
- A foundational understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) principles and interventions.
- Must be able to provide a recent and clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Must have a valid Ontario driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle that holds current automobile insurance.
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR. Willingness to obtain certification is required.
