New-Way Trucking Ltd. is expanding and developing a new yard in Balzac, Alberta, and we are looking for an experienced, safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys operating heavy equipment, working outdoors year-round, and taking pride in building and maintaining a large transportation facility. The successful candidate will play a key role in both the development of our new yard and the ongoing maintenance of daily yard operations.
Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for safely operating various types of heavy equipment to support site development, grading, compaction, material handling, snow removal, yard maintenance, and general construction activities. This position requires someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, and able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

- Safely operate heavy equipment including:
- Wheel Loaders
- Skid Steers
- Excavators
- Telehandlers
- Forklifts
- Rollers/Compactors
- Gravel Trucks (asset)
- Snow Removal Equipment
- Water Trucks (asset)
- Other construction and yard equipment as required
- Perform grading, leveling, compacting, backfilling, and site preparation.
- Spread and move gravel, dirt, aggregate, and other materials.
- Build and maintain roadways, trailer parking areas, and yard surfaces.
- Excavate, trench, backfill, and perform drainage work as required.
- Load and unload materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with trailer positioning and yard organization.
- Maintain roads and parking areas throughout the property.
- Operate snow removal equipment, sanders, and salt spreaders during winter.
- Perform vegetation control and general property maintenance.
- Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and complete equipment inspection reports.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of equipment.
- Report equipment deficiencies and coordinate repairs with the Maintenance Department.
- Ensure the worksite remains clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all company safety policies, OH&S regulations, and safe operating procedures.
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Yard Management to complete projects safely and efficiently.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
- Experience operating loaders, excavators, skid steers, rollers, compactors, forklifts, telehandlers, or similar heavy equipment.
- Experience with grading, compacting, site preparation, excavation, and earthmoving is preferred.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence required.
- Class 1 Driver's Licence is considered a strong asset.
- Forklift certification is an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify equipment issues.
- Experience in transportation yards, construction, civil works, industrial sites, or logistics facilities is preferred.
- Ability to read grades, understand site layouts, and work safely around heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent safety record and attention to detail.
