As part of the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism's mandate to
protect Ontario's heritage, we are seeking committed Archaeology Review Officers to help ensure that the province's cultural heritage resources are conserved as Ontario continues to grow.

In this role, you will:
- Review, analyze, and evaluate archaeological reports and development proposals to ensure alignment with provincial heritage protection standards
- Assess archaeological licence compliance, monitor reporting, and provide technical guidance to licensed archaeologists
- Offer professional advice and authoritative recommendations to archaeologists, planners, consultants, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and ministry stakeholders
- Identify and assess archaeological resource concerns, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies
- Facilitate resolution of complex or sensitive issues, balancing heritage considerations with development needs
- Contribute to the development and refinement of provincial programs, guidelines, and standards for archaeological and heritage conservation
- Support initiatives such as Provincial Heritage Organization (PHO) and Heritage Operational Development Grant (HODG) programs, Doors Open Ontario, and collaborations with the Ontario Heritage Trust
Note: Occasional travel within Ontario is required.
- You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
- You must hold a valid Professional or Applied Research class Ontario archaeological licence.
- You have knowledge of land archaeology and cultural heritage resource conservation and management theories, principles, practices and techniques.
- You can apply archaeology theories, principles, best practices and licensing processes to provide expertise in the preparation of licence reports.
- You have experience in Ontario's archaeological consulting industry and knowledge of provincial archaeological licensing and review processes.
- You understand the needs and process of research and avocational archaeology to provide technical advice and consultation to key stakeholders.
- You have knowledge of Ontario's archaeological history in order to critically review archaeological assessment and mitigation work.
- You can interpret and apply Ontario's land archaeological records, the Ontario Heritage Act, related legislation (i.e. the 2011 Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists).
- You can develop presentations for clients, stakeholders and senior managers.
- You can prepare archaeological reports, research publications, and provide technical input on ministry Cabinet submissions.
- You can deliver training and explain complex analysis and research to a wide audience.
- You can facilitate consensus building and resolve compliance issues.
- You can plan and complete formal negotiation sessions using knowledge of negotiation and mediation theory and processes.
- You have knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act and related legislation that provide the legislative framework for the conservation of Ontario's heritage resources.
- You have knowledge of information and record management systems and practices (e.g., PastPort, SharePoint).
- You are proficient using spreadsheet, presentation, word processing and database software to create customized reports, letters, statistical displays and spreadsheets.
