About the Client:
We are seeking a compassionate caregiver for a gentleman in his senior years living independently on a farm near Barbs Corners, halfway between Dryden and Ignace. He is experiencing cognitive decline with dementia-like symptoms including significant memory loss, confusion, and decreased initiative. He sleeps until mid-afternoon most days and requires prompting for basic daily activities. While he takes short walks and is not a wandering risk, he needs consistent support to maintain his health, safety, and quality of life at home.
Responsibilities:
- Provide bathing assistance and support with personal hygiene
- Prepare nutritious meals and provide feeding support as needed
- Manage medication reminders and ensure medications are taken properly
- Perform light housekeeping including cleaning and laundry
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection for cognitive support
- Encourage hydration and proper nutrition throughout the visit
- Monitor safety and well-being during care visits
- Communicate clearly with family members about care observations
What We're Looking For:
The ideal caregiver is patient, calm, and experienced working with clients who have cognitive impairment or dementia. You should be comfortable working with someone who is very slow-paced and can be stubborn at times. The client responds well to gentle encouragement and benefits from a caregiver who takes initiative while respecting his independence. A female caregiver is preferred. You must be reliable, consistent, and able to work independently in a rural farm setting. English-speaking required. Experience with personal care, meal preparation, and dementia care is essential.
Schedule:
Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM (3 hours per visit, 9 hours per week). The client is typically awake and most receptive to care during these afternoon and early evening hours. Consistency is important for building trust and maintaining routine.
