About Us
Associated Fire Safety Group provides firefighting and safety equipment, services, and support to fire departments across Western Canada and the Territories. Our ISP Department specializes in inspection, cleaning, repair, and maintenance of firefighting turnout gear.
We are hiring an experienced seamstress to join our Burnaby ISP Department and support the repair and maintenance of firefighting turnout gear.
Position Summary
This is a Seamstress I position within the ISP Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing turnout gear repairs, supporting inspection and documentation workflows, and following department repair procedures and quality standards.
The ideal candidate is already an experienced seamstress or sewing operator, is comfortable using industrial sewing equipment, and has strong attention to detail. Experience with firefighting turnout gear, PPE, garment repair, or industrial textiles is an asset.
As the successful candidate develops within the role, there may be opportunity for progression within the ISP Department based on demonstrated skill, quality of work, production efficiency, reliability, accountability, and department needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete standard turnout gear repairs, including shell and liner repairs.
- Operate industrial sewing equipment safely and competently.
- Follow department repair procedures, work order instructions, and quality standards.
- Support intake, inspection, cleaning, repair, documentation, and shipment preparation processes.
- Maintain accurate work order and repair documentation.
- Review work for accuracy and report repair concerns or questions to department leadership.
- Maintain consistent quality, accuracy, and productivity.
- Support advanced repairs and patch applications as skills progress.
- Assist with garment alterations or specialized repairs as training and experience develop.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a seamstress, sewing operator, garment repair technician, or similar role is required.
- Experience using industrial sewing equipment is required.
- Strong sewing, garment repair, alteration, or textile repair skills are required.
- Experience with firefighting turnout gear, PPE, or industrial textiles is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and meet quality standards.
- Reliable, accountable, and able to work independently.
- Comfortable learning technical repair processes and documentation requirements.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- Ability to manage assigned work and meet production timelines.
Compensation & Growth
Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
Progression within the department is based on demonstrated skill, quality of work, production efficiency, reliability, accountability, and department needs.
As skills progress, there may be opportunity to support advanced repairs, patch applications, garment alterations, and additional department responsibilities.
