Aspen View Public Schools, with a division office located in the town of Athabasca, is a rural school division providing diverse and innovative programming to students in a number of communities. The division is unique in that it is surrounded by a multitude of lakes, golf courses and trails that appeal to an active, outdoor lifestyle while still being in close proximity to larger urban centers.
Edwin Parr Composite School, located in the community of Athabasca, serves approximately 700 students in Grades 7–12. As the largest school in Aspen View Public Schools, EPC offers a broad range of learning opportunities within a modern facility opened in 2018. Students have access to a full complement of academic programming, as well as Career and Technology Studies courses including welding, mechanics, woodworking, and cosmetology. The school also offers strong fine arts options such as music, visual arts and drama. In addition, EPC provides a wide range of extracurricular opportunities, including athletics and other student activities.
As part of the Alberta Governments action to address classroom complexity, EPC is seeking a full time Teacher/Social Worker to provide specialized behavioural and safety supports for students in grade 7-12. This assignment includes serving as a member of the school-based complexity team. We are seeking a qualified Social Worker or Behavioural Specialist to support students with complex social, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs.
The successful candidate must hold, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or an equivalent post-secondary degree in a related field. The successful candidate must be adaptable and able to work effectively in a variety of settings, including classrooms, small-group environments, and one-to-one student support. They will collaborate with school staff to develop and implement strategies that promote student success and well-being.
Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as the successful candidate will work closely with teachers, educational assistants, school administration, families, and outside agencies as appropriate. The successful candidate must be able to follow direction while also demonstrating initiative, sound professional judgment, and the ability to respond effectively to the diverse needs of students.
