The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC (ANHBC) builds healthy and engaged neighbourhoods by connecting people and strengthening their capacity to create change.
ANHBC is the legal entity and umbrella organization made up of eight neighbourhood houses, an outdoor camp and central services. We operate more than 300 community-based programs and services for a diversity of participants. At ANHBC, we are committed to Reconciliation, Decolonization and Anti-racism. ANHBC is currently seeking qualified candidates who share ANHBC’s values to join our Kitsilano Neighbourhood House team. Neighbourhood houses are highly collaborative with a strong team framework. You are enthusiastic, dedicated, and enjoy working with young children in a diverse, multicultural, and energetic environment. Your view of children and educators aligns with the ANHBC Childcare Approach, and you believe children are capable, curious, and active participants in their learning.
You have experience working with young children and enjoy sharing your unique interests, skills, and knowledge in ways that spark curiosity and engagement. You are organized, communicate effectively, and bring strong planning and collaboration skills to your work. You are committed to creating thoughtful learning environments where children feel inspired, empowered, and valued as collaborators.
As a casual/on-call educator, you are flexible, dependable, and able to adapt quickly to different classrooms while supporting consistent, high-quality learning experiences.
Working as part of a collaborative team, the Childcare Educator – Casual fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment where children are recognized as capable co-contributors, and where learning unfolds through play, exploration, and relationships. A Childcare Educator – Casual performs all of the following duties:
Curriculum Design
- Ensure curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices are in place in the daycare
- Co-create programming with the staff team and children
- Use innovative methods for documentation and curriculum design, including anecdotal observations, finished products, photographs, and written dialogue
- Attend meetings and workshops to develop and discuss program curriculum and work competencies
- Interact with children and staff to encourage their involvement in activities
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits
- Demonstrate an understanding of typical developmental pathways
Safety
- Be informed of and follow all licensing regulations and requirements
- Use positive, child-centered, and respectful guidance practices
- Monitor classrooms to ensure a safe and supportive environment
- Ensure rooms are clean and that toys, furniture, and equipment are disinfected and safe for children
Community Culture
- Contribute as a reliable team player by communicating clearly, assisting colleagues when needed, and supporting shared team goals
- Establish and maintain strong communication with families
- Work collaboratively with volunteers and practicum students
- May be required to work in other Kitsilano Neighbourhood House childcare programs to ensure continuity of care and compliance with licensing regulations
- Perform other duties as required
- Experience in licensed childcare
- Valid RA, ECEA, ECE, ECEIT certificate
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Minimum age 19 years (as per licensing regulations)
This role requires the ability to meet physical demands that may include walking, lifting, moving supplies, setting up tables and chairs, and supporting daily program and space needs.
This is a Casual position that requires a consistent in-person presence at Kitsilano Neighbouhood House Childcare Centre(s)
