Join this phenomenal, high impact team and bridge the gap between crisis and recovery at one of Alberta’s largest and busiest urban hospitals. The Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program (ACARP) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to support patients with substance use concerns in acute care settings, including inpatient units and the Emergency Department. This is a unique opportunity to introduce, influence and support recovery at critical moments for patients who are often ready for change and/or treatment of their addiction. As a key member of a specialized interdisciplinary consult team, you will provide advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and recovery-focused care for individuals at Royal Alexandra Hospital with substance use disorders, complex medical, social, and mental health needs. You will work directly and collaboratively with physicians, addiction counsellors, peer support workers, pharmacists, and partnering medical services to ensure patients receive coordinated and compassionate care with seamless transitions following discharge. This role combines the rewarding challenge that comes with high acuity and high stakes care in a relatively new specialty and the rewards of seeing patients connect to their own recovery and supports that can transform their lives. You will help identify opportunities for intervention, initiate evidence-based treatment, facilitate referrals, and advocate for patients navigating complex health systems. Whether you know that this is the area for you or that you're hoping to gain valuable experience in Addictions to grow your skills and practice, we look forward to meeting you.
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.
