Role Summary
The Senior Accountant is a hands-on, highly organized accounting professional who supports the Director of Finance in executing high-quality financial reporting, AP/expense management, cost accounting, capex tracking, and month-end close activities. In addition, the Senior Accountant will support various finance strategic initiatives, annual audit readiness, new business line accounting and system implementation.
It is ideal for a detail-oriented accountant who enjoys a fast-paced startup environment with exposure to multi-entity operations, scaling finance functions, and strategic projects.
What You’ll Do
Core Accounting & Month-End Close
- Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain general ledger integrity in accordance with Canadian GAAP (ASPE).
- Assist the Director of Finance with financial statements, variance analysis, and reporting.
New Business Lines, Inventory & Cost Accounting Support
- Support accounting for new business lines, including inventory accounting, COGS, and cost allocation.
- Assist in setting up accounting structures for new legal entities or operations.
- Maintain supporting schedules for internal reporting, audits, and tax compliance.
Accounting Projects Support
- Support finance system upgrades and integrations
- Prepare schedules and support documentation for year-end audits.
- Support corporate tax, HST/GST, and SR&ED filings with accurate schedules and documentation.
- Other Ad Hoc Projects and Tasks
What You Will Bring
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation
- 6+ years of progressive full-cycle accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP (ASPE)
- Hands-on experience with accounting software or ERP systems
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills
Nice-to-Have (Strong Plus)
- Startup or high-growth company experience
- SaaS / subscription revenue accounting experience
- Experience with equity compensation (stock options, RSUs)
- Exposure to audit processes or financial controls
- Experience implementing or optimizing accounting systems
