Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated IPAC Manager to join our team. Reports directly to the Administrator and works closely with the DON, Clinical Manager, Medical Director, Public Health Unit, Department Managers and interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe and infection free environment for the residents, facility staff and visitors. Responsible overseeing the infection prevention and control program, including effective implementation, assessments, monitoring, evaluation and follow up on established infection prevention and control protocols and facility-wide practices as mandated by the legislation & best practices. This role also involves creating a positive learning environment, fostering student growth, and promoting lifelong learning. Work closely with staff and students, colleagues, and community partners to ensure educational excellence and inclusivity.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Home's departmental policies and procedures related to infection prevention and control, with special focus on possible transmission of infections (resident/staff/visitors) hand hygiene use of PPEs, safe handling/delivery/storage of food, soiled/clean linen, safe housekeeping, and other related programs to minimize the spread of infection in the Home; Ensure Home's compliance with the regulatory requirements through establishing effective documentation/tracking of all infections, scheduling on the job IPAC training and education of all staff, hands-on supervision/observations, regular auditing and re-educating as needed, including infection prevention & control program evaluation and compliance with established standards and policies at all levels within the organization.
- Coordinate Resident Immunization Program, in collaboration with the Medical Director, PHU and Pharmacy. Coordinate resident health screening as may be directed by the Ministry and PH officials, including in all cases of a declared outbreak.
- Review and monitor resident daily infection tracking reports completed by registered staff. Ensure appropriate action is taken in cases where there is more than one resident exhibiting similar signs and symptoms.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented policies and procedures, including required documentation and compliance by all facility staff with legislation, standards, policies and procedures.
- Monitor and ensure that IPAC Module on PCC is completed by the registered staff on a daily basis, by each shift;
- In all cases of a suspected and/or declared outbreak coordinate, oversee, monitor and track all residents'/staff health conditions, including line listing of affected residents, screening and resident/staff surveillance program as directed by the Ministry/PHU. Maintain close contact with PH and submit line listing and other reports as requested.
- Keep DON and Administrator apprised at all times to include but not limited to: implementation, compliance and control measure by each department;
- Ensure daily report is completed by the registered staff and information communicated to PH, Medical Director, SDM/POA and interdisciplinary team;
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of flu shots as per policy. Maintain all records, including signed consents;
- Ensure resident/s isolation, including proper isolation techniques and use of PPEs
- Cover registered staff shifts in emergency situations and make him/herself available to provide weekend coverage from time to time, as directed by the DON/Administrator;
- Provide staff education
- Conduct unannounced inspections, scheduled and focused audits. Prepare reports as may be required
- Work rotational weekends (1 in every 5-6)
Education
Registered Practical Nurse with current Registration with the College of Nurses . Long Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention (LTC-CIP)l from the Certification Board of Infection control and Epidemiology will be an asset.
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in long term care setting in a supervisory role. Must have a background in training, which includes needs assessment, planning, teaching, and evaluating in-services which address the needs of adult learners.
Knowledge
The ability to develop programs based on the needs of nurses working with seniors is essential. A thorough knowledge of the legislated requirements for long term care facilities in Ontario, Public Health Guidelines established standards, and other pertinent Provincial and Municipal legislation is required.

Pay: $73,000.00-$78,000.00 per year
