We are looking for a detail-oriented General Accountant to support core accounting and payroll activities for an automotive operation in Cambridge, Ontario. This position plays an important role in keeping financial records accurate, processing employee pay on schedule, and ensuring receivable and payable transactions are handled efficiently. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, practical payroll experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion.
Responsibilities:
- Manage billing, cash application, and follow-up on outstanding customer balances to support healthy accounts receivable performance.
- Complete weekly payroll processing, verify time and earnings information, and update employee records for deductions, exemptions, and compensation changes.
- Carry out month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and bank balancing.
- Maintain fixed asset and construction-related accounting records, and calculate recurring depreciation entries accurately.
- Review accounting discrepancies, investigate issues thoroughly, and resolve errors in a timely manner.
- Support compliance with company controls as well as applicable provincial and federal legislative requirements.
- Prepare financial reports, maintain organized documentation, and assist with audit support and account analysis as needed.
- Use and safeguard accounting and payroll systems effectively while ensuring the confidentiality of financial and employee information.
- Provide day-to-day assistance to the Controller in overseeing divisional financial operations and administrative accounting tasks.
- Record timekeeping and related operational data accurately while maintaining dependable attendance and adherence to workplace policies.
- Degree in Accounting is required.
- At least 5 years of experience in a general accounting role that includes payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience with general ledger activities and bank reconciliations.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll administration, invoicing, collections, and invoice processing.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and PivotTables, along with solid skills in Microsoft Office and Office 365.
- Experience using payroll software
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and how they apply in day-to-day financial operations.
- Manufacturing or automotive industry experience is considered an asset.
