The Interchange/Equipment Operator is responsible for operating the designated equipment as well as managing the Interchange desk. The primary equipment utilized in this position are heavy duty top lifts, designed specifically for the movement and stacking of intermodal shipping containers. The interchange desk is responsible for the inspection of inbound containers, ingate/outgate of equipment inventory in the software program, and directing of drivers to the appropriate location for loading/unloading.
The Operator must work in harmony with the Depot team, maintenance staff, truck drivers and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner.
Responsibilities
- Perform the unloading/loading of containers
- Perform inspections of incoming containers and properly identify and document any damages or discrepancies
- Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
- Participate in routine maintenance
- Practice workplace safety
- Manage and maintain container inventory both physically and digitally
- Maintain customer records and generate reports
Requirements
- Previous experience with lift (counter balance) equipment
- Working knowledge of Intermodal freight and the inner workings of the Steamship Lines would be considered an asset
- Strong commitment to Workplace safety
- Equipment maintenance, standards, and procedures
- Physically able to enter and exit the container as well as opening container doors which can be strenuous
- Work in all weather conditions
