Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Class 1 Truck Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to handle various types of freight.
Responsibilities
- Operate semi trucks and dry van / reefer trailers to transport goods in Vancouver Island area
- Must live in Victoria
- Operate 5 ton dry van / reefer trucks as required
- Operate manual and electric pallet jacks safely
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance
- Load and unload freight, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery times
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members regarding delivery schedules and any issues that arise during transport
- Adhere to all local, municipal, and federal driving regulations
- Manage routes efficiently to minimize delays and ensure timely deliveries
- Ability to obtain a Dangerous Goods (DG) ticket
- Clean driver's abstract
Skills
- 2+ years of experience
- A valid Class 1 commercial driver’s license (CDL) is required
- Experience with dry vans, Reefer, and Flat deck
- Experience operating electric pallet jacks and electric rail/tail gates
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and commercial vehicles
- Strong knowledge of freight handling procedures
- Basic automotive repair skills for troubleshooting minor vehicle issues on the road
- Experience operating forklifts for loading and unloading freight is a plus but not required
- Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, dispatchers, and team members effectively
- Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges that may arise during transportation
