Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching SLWK 3105 “2SLGBTQIA+ Communities of Resilience” on campus, in the Winter term from January to April 2027. Classes will be held Wednesdays from 14:35-17:25.
Course description: This course unpacks the historical and contemporary lives of Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) persons and communities relative to the profession of social work. The impacts of heteronormativity, homo-erasure, liberalism, colonization and medicalization are examined. Drawing from first-voice evidence-based analyses, the course explores how these constructs manifested and how the profession of social work developed from these bases. The course is situated within the resilience of the communities to change current conditions.
The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, grading of assignments, and consultation with students. In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparations for one-two months preceding course delivery.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Understanding and awareness of historical and contemporary socio-political realities of 2SLGBTQIA+ persons and communities in various practice contexts as well as social work’s role in related ethical, practice and policy issues. A Master of Social Work degree, or higher, and previous teaching experience, preferably with online teaching.
