Job Summary
Cutting Edge Tools Inc. (CET) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of custom industrial components for demanding applications.
This role is ideal for a self-directed engineer who can take ownership of design work from initial concept through to production-ready drawings, working with existing components, field inputs, and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze existing mechanical components and assemblies
- Develop accurate 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings
- Translate physical components or field measurements into manufacturable designs
- Evaluate component performance under load, stress, and operating conditions
- Conduct basic FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to validate designs
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, durability, and cost efficiency
- Collaborate with the machining team to ensure practical production outcomes
- Support prototype validation and testing processes
Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design (industrial or heavy-duty preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
- Load-bearing components
- Material selection and mechanical properties
- Tolerancing and fits
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience with design validation and FEA
Preferred Skills (Strong Assets)
- Experience working with existing or legacy mechanical components
- Ability to develop CAD models from physical parts or limited documentation
- Familiarity with 3D scanning or advanced measurement techniques
- Experience designing for CNC machining (milling, turning)
- Knowledge of components used in industrial or field-installed environments
- Experience working with pressure, sealing, or structural applications
