ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Utility Locator / Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) – Dedicated Locates, you will be responsible for accurately detecting, marking, and documenting underground infrastructure within a designated service area.
This is a field-based position requiring independence, strong technical ability, and a safety-first mindset. You will work closely with contractors, site foremen, municipalities, and utility owners to ensure excavation activities are completed safely and in compliance with damage prevention legislation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform underground utility locates for gas, hydro, telecom, fiber optic, water, and sewer infrastructure
- Operate locating equipment equipped with the latest RTK GPS technology
- Interpret Ontario One Call tickets and job orders accurately and efficiently
- Verify infrastructure using utility maps, as-builts, GIS systems, and engineering drawings
- Accurately mark underground facilities using industry-standard paint codes, flags, stakes, and electronic documentation systems
- Work closely with contractors and site foremen to coordinate safe excavation activities
- Monitor excavation activity when required to prevent damage to underground infrastructure
- Maintain detailed digital records, field notes, and electronic locate documentation
- Safeguard and properly maintain company vehicle, locating equipment, and tools

- Adhere strictly to company policies, procedures, and damage prevention regulations
- Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture on all job sites
- Deliver professional, solution-oriented customer service to contractors and utility partners
- Represent Rivacore with integrity, accountability, and professionalism at all times
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3+ years of public utility locating experience (experience with Alectra, Enbridge, Hydro One, required)
- Proven experience locating gas, hydro, telecom, and municipal infrastructure
- Advanced proficiency with electromagnetic (EM) locating methods
- Experience operating Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) considered an asset
- Strong ability to interpret utility maps, as-builts, engineering drawings, and GIS data
- Experience working within Ontario One Call ticketing systems
- ORCGA Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) Certification considered an asset
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and sound decision-making in field environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently
- Valid Full G Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal job sites
- Urban and rural terrain including construction zones, gravel, ditches, and uneven surfaces
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Overtime and occasional weekend work as required
