JOB TITLE: Sylvan Teacher- Math and Science Homework Support

LOCATION: Onsite at our Southwest location, 7460 Springbank Blvd SW #240, Calgary, AB T3H 0W4
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Sylvan Teacher is responsible for delivering a positive and personalized learning experience for each student. The Sylvan Teacher monitors and evaluates student progress on every assignment, communicates results effectively, and collaborates with Centre staff to ensure instruction is tailored to individual learning needs.
WHAT YOU DO:
- Inspire students! Develop rapport with students in a fun learning environment
- Teach using Sylvan programs
- Motivate students during the instructional hour by rewarding their success
- Evaluate and document student progress
- Communicate student needs to the Centre directors
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepares for each instructional session; Gathers and prepares materials as appropriate
- Initiates instruction to personally engage each student
- Instructs students according to the design of the Sylvan programs
- Coaches students through subject material they may find challenging
- Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
- Evaluates and records the progress of each student
- Uses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
- Manages the conclusion of each instructional session, including completion of the learning log and transition activities
- Collaborates with administrators to support student development and address individual needs
- Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed
- Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Four-year degree in mathematics, science, or related discipline
- Provincial teaching credentials or teaching experience preferred
- Familiarity with the Alberta curriculum preferred
